The formulation of SAFER-BIO-FUEL™ is the result of an extensive scientific development project. Several green fuels have been tested and formulated with the goal to optimize clean burning and safety of the user. Aspects such as burner and wick design and composition of the fluid have been studied. The possible presence of toxic by-products in the fluid has been studied, and none were found. The exhaust gases and burning efficiency have been tested as well. The result is a fuel of which one litre contains more energy than one litre of ethanol, while exhaust gases are similar, mainly water and carbon dioxide. The result is a fluid with high flashpoint (over 80°C) and thus with enormously reduced risk of flash fires and explosions compared to ethanol (flashpoint 17°C!). The fluid is very safe in use because it can only be lit at room temperature in the presence of a wick and after being exposed to a flame for a prolonged time (at least several seconds). This makes it far safer than ethanol, which ignites immediately when exposed to a flame or spark. If the oven with burning fluid might fall over, the fluid will in most cases self-extinguish. At room temperature the fluid forms insufficient vapour to support explosion.

The chosen fluid is produced in Belgium, from renewable bio raw materials and has very low toxicity towards the environment and a very low carbon footprint.

A patent application to protect this extensive development work has been filed in 2013.
